Expanding The Team

At this point, all of these positions have been filled. Thank you to everyone who applied and for your interest in working with us!

We're looking to expand the OrbusVR team in a few key areas; if you're interested in helping us create the first major VRMMORPG, read on for more details on what we're looking for and how to apply.

If you got this link from someone and are new to OrbusVR, we are a VR MMORPG that launched into Early Access on the Steam and Oculus storefronts in December. With more than 19,000 players, we're one of the most-played VR multiplayer games, and we're aggressively moving forward with making the game one of the best places to spend your time in the metaverse.

Unity C# Developer

Ad Alternum Game Studios is seeking to hire an experienced Unity Developer to join our team. This is a full-time, remote position, available to applicants from anywhere in the world; however, do note that we typically work in the US Central Time Zone, so preference will be given to those who work hours that fit with that schedule.

This position will be taking over the primary role of client-side programming under the leadership of the Game Director. You'll be the one responsible for creating new and interesting experiences for our players to enjoy on the client. Whether its programming a new UI enhancement, a new boss encounter, or a new shader, you should be well-versed in all the various aspects of Unity game development.

Requirements for this position include:

  • 2-3 years experience working with the Unity Game Engine to create compelling experiences, in a professional or hobbyist setting
  • A very solid knowledge of C# programming in general, and specifically in Unity
  • Experience reading stack traces and crash reports to debug issues
  • A very solid, independent work ethic; experience working 100% remotely is a big plus

We'll also give preference to candidates with the following skills/experience:

  • Experience writing shaders, especially in the "toon" or "cell-shaded" art style
  • Experience working with VR in Unity, including the SteamVR and Oculus SDKs
  • Experience working with ENet
  • Experience working with NodeJS

If you'd like to apply to this position, please email your resume and salary requirements to [email protected], subject "Unity C# Developer". Please also include a link to any previous work you have done; code samples or links to a Github repo with open-source contributions are especially welcome.

Sound Designer

Ad Alternum Game Studios is seeking to hire an experienced Sound Designer to join our team. This is a part-time, remote position, available to applicants from anywhere in the world; however, do note that we typically work in the US Central Time Zone, so preference will be given to those who work hours that fit with that schedule.

This position will own the soundscape present in the game, from the (currently absent) ambient noises as you journey throughout the world, to the spell sound effects and monstrous roars in battle.

You should be well-versed in creating both ambient naturescapes, fantasy magical sounds, combat sounds, and even some light composition work. Bonus points if you have experience working in Unity to implement these sounds into a game, although that's not a requirement.

It would also be helpful if you have a VR headset, but if you don't then we can work around that for the right candidate.

If you'd like to apply to this position, please email your resume and hourly rate to [email protected], subject "Sound Designer". Please also include a link to any previous work you have done so we can listen to it.

3D Environment Artist

We're looking to further expand our art team and add at least one additional 3D Artist. This is a part-time position offering at least 20 hours per week on a contract basis.

You'll work with Elijah and the rest of our art team to design and model a re-imagining of the current OrbusVR buildings and landscape into something that better matches our new Art Style (think Breath of the Wild). We've done a good job getting the gear, monsters, and other dynamic elements of our world switched over, but we're gearing up to take on the massive task of getting the rest of the static elements re-modeled, and we need more help to do it!

You should have experience creating 3D environment models for games, taking into consideration polygon budgets for a smooth gameplay experience. Bonus points if you've done any previous work in VR games or in Unity, although neither are a hard requirement.

If you'd like to apply to this position, please email your resume and hourly rate to [email protected], subject "3D Environment Artist". Please also include a link to your art portfolio of past work.

Quick Notes for these Positions

If you are an existing, active player of the game and want to apply, note that our company-wide policy is that members of our Development Team are not allowed to play the game in a competitive fashion. That means you can't be in a Fellowship trying for a first kill of a boss, you can't actively play the market, etc. We will discuss the details with you further if we make an offer to hire, but just want to note that up front. Of course your passion for the game is a major bonus to us, so we welcome your application if you want to see what the other side of the table is like!

Finally, please note that due to the inevitable volume of applications we will receive for these positions, we will be unable to individually respond to every one of them. We will update this post when the positions are filled. Thanks for your interest in working with us, we hope to hear from you soon!
