OrbusVR: Reborn -- Letter from the Director

As we prepare to launch OrbusVR: Reborn tomorrow, I wanted to take a moment to thank the entire OrbusVR community. We began this journey together over two years ago with the launch of a Kickstarter campaign in March 2017. At the time, it probably seemed either incredibly ambitious or downright foolhardy for a small indie team to attempt to create the world's first VRMMO. But right away you rallied with us to support us and help us work toward making it a reality. That Kickstarter met its funding goal in just 4 hours, and we've been working hard to deliver on that promise ever since.

Fast-forward to today. Since the game's launch in December of 2017 into Early Access, more than 60,000 people have played OrbusVR, spanning more than 575,000 hours played in-game. You've hunted down World Bosses, completed quests, defended the realm, and conquered the first-ever 10-player Raid in VR. All while contributing your feedback, ideas, helping track down bugs, and welcoming new players to help maintain our reputation as one of the friendliest games in VR. We've accomplished a lot together in the last two years, there's no doubt. But what excites me the most is where the journey is going to take us all next.

OrbusVR: Reborn has been under development internally for more than a year. It's a necessary step in the evolution of the game, and allows us to take all of the many things we've learned from the past two years and put them into practice. Improved performance and stability. More varied and interesting activities. Public events and dungeons designed for the whole community to easily participate in together. Tougher challenges for experienced players. A graphical art style that is cohesive and crafted specifically for our game. The original OrbusVR was our first attempt to realize a VR MMO; Reborn builds off that and takes it to the next level.

And beyond just looking nicer and performing better and all of those things I just mentioned, Reborn's been designed for the long haul. It's going to be significantly easier now for us to bring the game to other platforms to expand the player base (Hello, Oculus Quest!) Our team will be able to put out content on a regular basis to keep the game fresh and challenging for our veteran players. And we have big plans for the future in terms of expanding all of the fun things you can do while you are playing with the OrbusVR community.

In some ways, this feels like the end of a long process that we began a year ago to get Reborn out the door. But really, it's just the first step of the next part of our journey together. Thank you for being with us. Having a supportive community of engaged players is what has allowed OrbusVR to thrive, and it's what will carry us forward into the future.

I'll see you all in-game tomorrow!

Best Regards,

Riley
